From Principal Maldonado:
We hope you had an amazing week of school with Duval MYcro. August is nearly over! The following students won dinner with the Principal for scoring college ready on Achieve3000, or STAR Reading and/or STAR Math:
Please make sure that your student has completed virtual orientation. If your student hasn’t yet completed it, please check your emails for login information and get that done immediately. There is information in the Orientation about the Student Handbook for 2223, Acceptable Technology Use Policy, Code of Conduct, School Uniform, and school safety information. Additionally, if you have not purchased school uniform you need to do that immediately. Students that are not in school uniform will NOT be admitted to class until someone can bring them school uniform. Uniform t-shirts and sweatshirts can be purchased with correct change, cash only, in the front office from 9am-3pm M-F with a limit of 3 shirts per person. The new shirts will be ready for sale on Monday! Other uniform pieces include khaki pants, and closed toe shoes. As Principal, I strongly discourage any parent or student from opting out of facemasking as you put yourself and your community at risk; especially if you are unvaccinated. We’ve had a handful of COVID positive students so far that are now sick. Let’s work as a community to kick COVID. Mask up! Get the vaccine!
Students will meet their advisory teachers on their first day of school. Teachers are the first point of contact for issues and concerns. Make sure your student knows who his or her advisory teacher is. Teacher emails are listed on www.duvalmycroschool.org. The advisory teacher will support them through their educational journey in addition to the other staff at Duval MYcroSchool.
Invites for the College Summit program went out this past week from your teachers and advisors. Don’t miss the opportunity to earn yourself a light blue cord at graduation and get extra support for your postsecondary journey.
Please keep in mind that Seniors are in the morning shift and underclassmen are in the afternoon shift. Seniors go from 7:30am-12:34pm, and underclassmen attend at 10:02am-3:11pm. Please make note of early dismissal days as we do follow the district calendar, but due to testing and other academic functions, we have more early dismissal days. BOTH SHIFTS attend from 7:30am-12:34pm on early dismissal days. Please see our school calendar posted on our website and social media.
Our first early dismissal day is this Wednesday, August 31st, 2022. Both shifts are to attend during first shift on early dismissal days. Please see the school calendar on our website for more details.
Students and parents, we must ensure that students are getting to school on time. Citing traffic as to why your student is late is inexcusable. There will always be traffic and accidents. School starts at 7:30am for first shift and students will not be allowed in the building if they arrive after 8am. Some students are cutting it way too close. School starts at 10:02am for the second shift. After 10:30am, they will not be allowed in the building and will be marked unexcused. We have given students nearly two weeks to get here on time and have given numerous warnings. If your student does not arrive in time before the cut off time, the student will be sent home, the parent will be called and the incident documented. Please support us in making sure your student understands that being on time is an important adulting skill that adds to the level of employability and professionalism.
Finally, please make sure you have provided an email so you may receive progress reports in your inbox on Sunday evenings. We have a new curriculum system so more information on weekly progress reports will be forthcoming. If you don’t see a progress report this Sunday evening, let us know.
Please make sure to clear your junk mail if you do not see weekly communications from us. See you next week!
