From Principal Maldonado:
We are not halfway through September. Great job to those students keeping up with their work, testing, and attendance. We would also like to extend our thoughts and blessings to families impacted by the September 11th, 2001 tragedies and let you know we stand in solidarity with you.
Parents, please access our student handbook on our website or your student’s Google Classroom. If your student hasn’t yet completed virtual orientation, please check your emails for login information and get that done immediately. There is information in the Orientation about the Student Handbook for 2223, Acceptable Technology Use Policy, Code of Conduct, School Uniform, and school safety information.
As Principal, I strongly discourage any parent or student from opting out of facemasking as you put yourself and your community at risk; especially if you are unvaccinated. We’ve had a handful of COVID positive students so far that are now sick. Furthermore, we have several students and staff members who are immunocompromised. Let’s work as a community to kick COVID. Mask up! Get the vaccine!
Teachers are the first point of contact for issues and concerns. Make sure your student knows who his or her advisory teacher is. Teacher emails are listed on www.duvalmycroschool.org. The advisory teacher will support them through their educational journey in addition to the other staff at Duval MYcroSchool.
Our first College Summit meeting just for those students who signed up is this Thursday from 1pm to 4pm, September 15th, 2022 after dismissal. Lunch will be served for the students. Don’t miss the opportunity to earn yourself a light blue cord at graduation and get extra support for your postsecondary journey.
Please keep in mind that Seniors are in the morning shift and underclassmen are in the afternoon shift. Seniors go from 7:30am-12:34pm, and underclassmen attend at 10:02am-3:11pm. Please make note of early dismissal days as we do follow the district calendar, but due to testing and other academic functions, we have more early dismissal days. BOTH SHIFTS attend from 7:30am-12:34pm on early dismissal days. Please see our school calendar posted on our website and social media.
Our next early dismissal day is Thursday, September 15th, 2022. College Summit will be held immediately after dismissal that day. Both shifts are to attend during first shift on early dismissal days. Please see the school calendar on our website for more details. Mrs. Milton from the Mayor’s office will be here to speak about internships and scholarships.
Students and parents, we must ensure that students are getting to school on time. Citing traffic as to why your student is late is inexcusable. There will always be traffic and accidents. However, we do understand that sometimes life happens, but some people are abusing tardiness every day. School starts at 7:30am for first shift and students will not be allowed in the building if they arrive after 8am. Some students are cutting it way too close. School starts at 10:02am for the second shift. After 10:30am, they will not be allowed in the building and will be marked unexcused. We have given students nearly two weeks to get here on time and have given numerous warnings. If your student does not arrive in time before the cut off time, the student will be sent home, the parent will be called and the incident documented. Please support us in making sure your student understands that being on time is an important adulting skill that adds to the level of employability and professionalism.
State progress monitoring and assessments began this past week. Please make sure your student gets to school on time and we will do our best to make sure they leave on time. However, FSA and EOC retakes allow for extended time. Let’s work together to be flexible so our students pass these tests! September 10th, 2022 is ACT at Duval MYcroSchool. If your student is signed up, please make sure they are at the building by 7:45am that Saturday morning. Light breakfast will be served. If your student is signed up for this test and waste their waiver by not showing up for whatever reason, the waiver will NOT be replaced and the school will not pay for extra test dates. This Friday, September 16th, 2022, is the last day to sign up for October ACT. See Mrs. Lee and Mrs. Waters for more information.
Finally, please make sure you have provided an email so you may receive progress reports in your inbox on Sunday evenings. We have a new curriculum system so more information on weekly progress reports will be forthcoming. If you don’t see a progress report this Sunday evening, let us know. Please make sure to clear your junk mail if you do not see weekly communications from us. See you next week!
