Sunday Call Blast 9/25/2022

From Principal Maldonado:

Great job to those students keeping up with their work, testing, and attendance.  Starting Monday, September 26th, we begin testing makeups.  If you were absent for whatever reason, speak with your teachers or Ms. Green for a makeup day or you will be missing a chance to pass graduation exams.  If you are a super senior, and you didn’t show up for testing, you run the risk of being exited with a Certificate of Completion.

Parents, please access our student handbook on our website or your student’s Google Classroom.  If your student hasn’t yet completed virtual orientation, please check your emails for login information and get that done immediately.  There is information in the Orientation about the Student Handbook for 2223, Acceptable Technology Use Policy, Code of Conduct, School Uniform, and school safety information.

As Principal, I strongly discourage any parent or student from opting out of facemasking as you put yourself and your community at risk; especially if you are unvaccinated.  We’ve had a handful of COVID positive students so far that are now sick. Furthermore, we have several students and staff members who are immunocompromised. Let’s work as a community to kick COVID.  Mask up!  Get the vaccine!

Teachers are the first point of contact for issues and concerns.  Make sure your student knows who his or her advisory teacher is.  Teacher emails are listed on www.duvalmycroschool.org. The advisory teacher will support them through their educational journey in addition to the other staff at Duval MYcroSchool.

Our next College Summit meeting just for those students who signed up is Thursday from 1pm to 4pm, October 13th, 2022 after dismissal.  Lunch will be served for the students and families.  Don’t miss the opportunity to earn yourself a light blue cord at graduation and get extra support for your postsecondary journey.  Parents be prepared to learn how to fill out the FAFSA and OFSA with your 2021 taxes.  Make sure you have a FAFSA pin before this session.

Please keep in mind that Seniors are in the morning shift and underclassmen are in the afternoon shift.  Seniors go from 7:30am-12:34pm, and underclassmen attend at 10:02am-3:11pm.  Please make note of early dismissal days as we do follow the district calendar, but due to testing and other academic functions, we have more early dismissal days.  BOTH SHIFTS attend from 7:30am-12:34pm on early dismissal days.  Please see our school calendar posted on our website and social media.

Our next early dismissal day is Thursday, September 28th, 2022.

National SAT Day is Saturday, October 1st, 2022 at Duval MYcroSchool.

The FAFSA will open on Saturday October 1st, 2022 at www.studentaid.gov.

Students and parents, we must ensure that students are getting to school on time.  Citing traffic as to why your student is late is inexcusable.  There will always be traffic and accidents.  However, we do understand that sometimes life happens, but some people are abusing tardiness every day. School starts at 7:30am for first shift and students will not be allowed in the building if they arrive after 8am.  Some students are cutting it way too close.  School starts at 10:02am for the second shift.  After 10:30am, they will not be allowed in the building and will be marked unexcused.  We have given students nearly two weeks to get here on time and have given numerous warnings.  If your student does not arrive in time before the cut off time, the student will be sent home, the parent will be called and the incident documented.  Please support us in making sure your student understands that being on time is an important adulting skill that adds to the level of employability and professionalism.

This Friday September 30th is mandatory state attendance day.  We will be having Fellowship Friday and dress down day.  Please see the flyer we will send home for details on what students are encouraged to wear for Hispanic Heritage Month.  Mambo’s Cuban Café will be catering lunch in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month for staff and students in attendance.

Finally, please make sure you have provided an email so you may receive progress reports in your inbox on Sunday evenings.  We have a new curriculum system so more information on weekly progress reports will be forthcoming.  If you don’t see a progress report this Sunday evening, let us know.

Please make sure to clear your junk mail if you do not see weekly communications from us.  See you next week!
