From Principal Maldonado:
Greetings Duval MYcroSchool families! Fall is in the air and first quarter is nearly over!
There is information in the Google classroom about the Student Handbook for 2324, Acceptable Technology Use Policy, Code of Conduct, School Uniform, and school safety information. Students that are not in school uniform will NOT be admitted to class until someone can bring them school uniform. Uniform t-shirts and sweatshirts can be purchased with correct change, cash only, in the front office from 9am-3pm M-F with a limit of 3 shirts per person. Other uniform pieces include khaki pants, and closed toe shoes. Crocs and croc-like shoes are not allowed.
Teachers are the first point of contact for issues and concerns. Make sure your student knows who his or her advisory teacher is. This person is found on their schedule. Teacher emails are listed on www.duvalmycroschool.org. The advisory teacher will support them through their educational journey in addition to the other staff at Duval MYcroSchool.
We had 20 students show up for the first College Summit session! This is amazing. Students must commit and be present to all four sessions to get the incentives at the end in December. The session went very well and I am so impressed with their ambition to get prepared for life after high school. Students that complete the program will earn a light blue cord for graduation. The next session is from 12:30pm to 2pm on Tuesday, October 24, 2023.
Please keep in mind that each student has a specific shift. AM students go from 7:30am-12:34pm, and PM students attend at 10:02am-3:11pm. Please make note of early dismissal days as we do follow the district calendar, but due to testing and other academic functions, we have more early dismissal days. BOTH SHIFTS attend from 7:30am-12:34pm on early dismissal days. Please see our school calendar posted on our website and social media. Do not bring your scholar to any other shift other than the one on their schedule. After the first day of school, students will not be allowed in if they are more than half an hour tardy for school. This policy is in our student handbook on our website and in the Google Orientation classroom.
Parents and students, state assessments are currently still running for the next week. Please ensure that your student is at school every day unless he or she is sick. There is limited time this year on getting students state tested. We want your student to sit for every test and give them the best shot at graduating. We do appreciate your patience as the state has us running three different testing systems at once. If your student is absent regularly or refuses to test, he or she will miss a state assessment that could impact his or her ability to graduate on time.
If your student did not report to school last Friday, he or she needs to call us and report immediately. The school is penalized when students do not attend school. Poor student attendance is the main reason schools lose staff.
Saturday, October 7, 2023 is SAT at Duval MYcroSchool. If you’re signed up, you’re expected to be at the school by 7:30am. A light breakfast will be provided.
Wednesday, October 11, 2023 is the end of the first quarter. It is also PSAT and in-school SAT and a MYcroSchool Early Dismissal day due to testing. Excused students that do not need to test were given a letter for parents to sign with an explanation. Everyone please be advised that we will not allow late students to enter. We must start at 8 am as testing may run over dismissal time.
Monday, October 16, 2023 there is no school. The building will be closed.
Tuesday, October 24, 2023 is College Summit from 12:30pm to 2pm.
Wednesday, October 25, 2023 is a district early dismissal day. All students attend the AM shift.
Friday, October 27, 2023 is a weather make-up day for Hurricane Idalia. It is also Fellowship Friday. This is a change from your school calendar.
October 28, 2023 is ACT at Duval MYcroSchool.
Tuesday, October 31, 2023 is Halloween! It is also a Duval MYcroSchool early dismissal day. Both shifts should attend the AM session.
