School Messenger 12/08/2024
From Principal Maldonado:
Greetings Duval MYcroSchool families!
There is information in the Orientation about the Student Handbook for 2425 posted on our website. Additionally, all communications will go on the school’s Band app. If you need the QR code, please come into the school to receive the flyer or check your enrollment packet.
Parents, we need help and support with safety issues in the parking lot. For dropoff or pickup, park your vehicle in a parking space. DO NOT do a “drive by” or park in the lanes blocking traffic. This is how students get hit. Students are attempting to cross the parking lot to get to their vehicles and a few parents are refusing to park their vehicles and are not looking and causing huge problems. Please be reminded that JSO is in the parking lot and the Principal will issue a trespass warning if parents continue to disrespect the safety concerns of the school community. Because we share a parking lot with other businesses, we have to be mindful of safety at all times. Please help support the school in simply parking your vehicle for student safety. We are finalizing plans that include a new procedure to make this safer. Thank everyone for your patience.
You are NEVER allowed to drive anywhere under the influence. If you drive onto a school campus under the influence you can be charged with a DUI, as well as child endangerment.
The good news is that when you return from Winter Break, there will be a new lane and procedures for drop off and pickup traffic. All entering and exiting vehicles will use the parking lot entrance on the south side of Normandy Village Parkway. Just follow the signs around the property on Normandy Village Parkway to the entrance of the parking lot on the side of the building closest to our front door. MYcroSchool staff will be on hand to assist until everyone is trained. Please see the Band app for the map and look for the mailer.

Uniform T-shirts and sweatshirts can be purchased with correct cash only in the front office with a limit of 3 shirts per student. We strongly suggest that you purchase at least 1 sweatshirt and multiple undershirts to wear underneath as the building temperature can vary. Pricing for school uniform shirts can be found on our website at duvalmycroschool.org.
Parents and students, please DO NOT forget your student ID. Nearly every student has one now, unless you’re brand new. If you did not get an ID yet, see Mr. McDonald. The student ID is part of the uniform for crisis response purposes, and it is mandatory. If you forget your ID four times and do not bring your $5 to school to replace your ID, you may be sent home. Parents, we ask for your support in this matter. Our young adults will be in the real world very soon and the details will matter. Please see our student code of conduct for more details. Students without complete school uniform will NOT be admitted to class until someone can bring them school uniform. Other uniform pieces include khaki pants and closed toe shoes. Please see the student code of conduct for our dress code details on our website. No Crocs, croc-like shoes, or slides.
Teachers are the first point of contact for issues and concerns. Make sure your student knows who his or her advisory teacher is. This person is found on their schedule. Teacher emails are listed on www.duvalmycroschool.org. The advisory teacher will support them through their educational journey in addition to the other staff at Duval MYcroSchool.
If you turned in your form to participate in College Summit, the next session is scheduled for January 24, 2025 from 12:19-2:50pm. Lunch will be provided for College Summit and parents that are required to attend to start the FAFSA. The FAFSA is now open at www.studentaid.gov. College Summit students must complete each session to get the para at the end!
There are still parents consistently not picking up students on time each day. Moving forward, the school will file a report with the Department of Children and Families and call the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office to pick up your student. Our policy is outlined in the student handbook for this. Parents and guardians have 15 minutes beyond dismissal time to pick up their student. We cannot have students sitting outside the building waiting for hours for their rides. Every student that has a student ID is allowed to ride JTA for free as long as they show their ID. Please keep in mind that leaving your student unattended at dismissal and intake is unsafe as we are small and do not have enough adults to monitor your student after dismissal and before intake. JSO is on hand during certain hours of the day, but they cannot be here until late in the evening. All staff are off work at 3:30pm daily.
